My Experience Using the Viv Menstrual Cup for the First Time

Hi guys! It’s Zana, your newest marketing intern at Viv. I’ve never tried a menstrual cup before, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do so. I tried the Viv Cup yesterday, and I have so much to say about my experience!!

I got my period a few days ago and I planned to try the Viv cup when my flow was the heaviest on day 2. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous inserting it, but with thorough research and guidance from the experts at Viv, I felt safe and prepared. When inserting it, I made sure to relax and find a comfortable position before folding the cup into a “C”. I also made sure to have clean hands and I cleaned the cup beforehand. The whole process of inserting it took me 20 seconds and was way easier than I thought it would be! Before leaving for work I also put a liner on, just in case I had any leakage.

By 9 am I was on my way into the office and felt very comfortable. The only thing that I noticed was that I had to pee more often, but I learned that this was normal in the adjusting period of using a menstrual cup for the first time. I had a little leakage in the morning, but it was extremely minimal and thanks to the liner it was no big deal! Throughout the work day I honestly did not notice the cup at all and everything felt normal. It was so nice to not worry about changing a pad or a tampon!

By the time I came home at 6 pm I had been wearing the cup for 10 hours. I wanted to put it through one last test before emptying it, so I went for a walk with my friend and was back by 8 pm. By the 12 hour mark I decided to empty the cup. I followed the instructions in the Viv Cup Starter Kit, pulling on the stem and squeezing a little on the bottom of the cup to break the seal before wiggling it out. No spillage!!! No pain!!! How have I never used a cup before? It is literally so easy, no changing it every two or three hours like tampons! Besides the occasional period cramps that I tend to get, it almost felt like I didn’t even have my period while wearing the Viv Cup.

I was skeptical of using the cup at the beginning, but was positively surprised at my first try! It is perfect for long office days or when you know you are going to do an activity that takes a lot of time during the day. Wearing the cup takes one thing off of your “to worry about” list, and creates space for focusing on the rest of your life. I can’t wait for my next period, and taking my new bff (the Viv Cup) to the beach. Yes, she is my bff now. I’ll bring the iced tea, she's got my period covered ;)
