Do Organic Tampons Make Your Period Shorter?

Recently, menstruators have been taking to social media to share that switching to organic cotton period care like Viv Tampons has changed the length of their periods - some saying their periods shortened from 7-8 days all the way down to 4 days.

While we know there are many benefits to using organic cotton tampons, both for the environment and for your body, could they really change the length of your period?

The short answer is: it's unlikely.

According to health care experts, organic cotton period products have no proven effect on the length of your menstrual cycle. What's more likely to explain changes in the length of your period are fluctuations in stress levels, weight, and general health.

That being said, there have been no peer reviewed studies testing this theory, and as more and more anecdotal evidence is presented, we are excited to see where menstrual research leads on this topic in the years to come.

Whether or not organic tampons shorten your period, there are still countless reasons to choose organic over traditional period care options. Conventional cotton is heavily treated with toxic pesticides, putting the farmers who grow the cotton in harms way, and leaving trace amounts of extremely harmful chemicals in tampons. Multiple proven carcinogens have been found in almost all non-organic period products. So, Viv Tampons, Pads, and Liners are a safer, more sustainable, and more ethical choice, even if your period stays the same length!
